Three generations of French craftsmanship. Imported materials. Uncompromising precision. Laid for those who accept nothing less than the finest.
Pierre Mason was born in 1874 in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, a small sun-worn village in the heart of southern France, the second of five sons born to Henri Mason — a stonemason of extraordinary reputation whose name was spoken with reverence across three provinces.
On his deathbed in the winter of 1891, Henri Mason gathered his five sons — Étienne, Pierre, Léon, François, and Auguste — and delivered words that would define the Mason bloodline for generations: "Whatever craft you choose, you will be the finest to have ever practised it. To be anything less is to spit upon the Mason name. Je vous le demande. Become the best."
Pierre took those words and never let go of them. At just 17 years old, he left Saint-Rémy and made the journey to England — a country he believed held the grandest estates, the most discerning clientele, and therefore, the greatest stage upon which to become the very best.
He sourced only the rarest materials — French limestone from the quarries of Bourgogne, Belgian cobblestone from Antwerp, black granite from the mountains of Bretagne — and combined them with a French craftsman's obsessive precision to lay driveways that were unlike anything England had ever seen. Word spread quickly through aristocratic circles. By 1901, Pierre Mason was being commissioned by the English nobility. By 1910, royalty. The Mason family continues that same unbroken standard to this day.
To be anything less than the finest is to spit upon the Mason name.
— Henri Mason, 1891

Pierre Mason did not simply lay our driveway. They restored a sense of grandeur to Ashford Estate that had been absent for decades.
